(5th meeting) UNICEF Executive Board, Second regular session 2025.

 

The 2025 second regular session of the UNICEF Executive Board will meet in New York from 2-5 September 2025. The Executive Board reviews UNICEF activities and approves its policies, country programmes and budgets.

The Executive Board is the governing body of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), providing intergovernmental support and oversight to the organization, in accordance with the overall policy guidance of the United Nations General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council.

Opening of session. The Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is the body of 18 Independent experts that monitors implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by its State parties. It also monitors implementation of two Optional Protocols to the Convention, on involvement of children in armed conflict and on sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography. Over the past 30 years, children's lives have been transformed by the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history. The Convention on the Rights of the Child has inspired governments to change laws and policies, so more children get the healthcare and nutrition they need. There are better safeguards in place to protect children from violence and exploitation. More children have their voices heard and participate in society. But there is still more work to be done.
